Much After the Game… NBA All Star Weekend Edition

Some said that Valentine’s Day would be cancelled this year. That is because NBA All- Star weekend opened up that Friday and the All- Star game happened Valentine’s night. Even though there was an excuse to miss the events that took place that weekend in Toronto, hopefully you did not because they were one for the record books.

The skills challenge, three point challenge and dunk contest all took place on Saturday night, while the All- Star game occurred Sunday night. The skills challenge took on a different twist this year. The speedy, backcourt court guys took on the big guys to see who had the most skills. First they went against their own group and the final round a speedy guy went head to head with a big guy. In the end, who do you think won? The big guy of course! The final two standing were Isaiah Thomas and Karl Anthony- Towns while the final man standing was Karl- Anthony Towns. (For those who don’t know, Isaiah Towns is the point guard for the Boston Celtics and Karl- Anthony Towns is the power forward for the Minnesota Timberwolves)

Next up was the three point competition. I’m almost positive everyone thought Steph Curry of the Golden State Warriors had it in the bag.Why would anyone think that you ask? He’s STEPH CURRY with the SHOT boy! But seriously, his shooting skills are impeccable. There was just someone a little better than him that night, his teammate, Klay Thompson. I mean, one out of the two Splash Brothers did take home the honor and it stayed within the Golden State Warriors family, so it’s al good. (Splash Brothers consist of Steph Curry and Klay Thompson)

Following the three point contest was the dunk contest, the contest everyone talked about days after. In the first round it became the Aaron Gordon and Zach LaVine show.  (Aaron Gordon is the small forward for the Orlando Magic and Zach LaVine is the point guard for the Minnesota Timberwolves) Just take a look below.

And ALL of Zach LaVine’s dunks need to be seen being that for the second year in a row he took home the trophy, so here’s the link for that:

Now moving on to the All- Star game on Sunday. As we all know, or should know, it was Kobe Bryant’s last All- Star game so it was a little special. He was celebrated for his accomplishments, but it was Russell Westbrook who stole the show and was named MVP. (Westbrook is the point guard for the Oklahoma City Thunder) He ended the game with 31 points, 8 rebounds, five assists and five steals. That aided in the Western Conference win over the Eastern Conference 196- 173.

Hope you enjoyed your Valentine’s Day.
